Lets Get To Buisness

I have been writing posts about how to get the freeware and methods to tackle piracy.
now lets discuss the available options.
Operating System
  1. ubuntu -The famous linux based os which bosts of about 16 million users.Ubuntu is a easy to use with all the required features.Commercial backing from canonical ensures that the os is updated regularly.Ubuntu has good stabilty and increasing number of software vendors are keen to support it.SOif you are a casual user then this may be for you.but for those gamers out there windows is the only way.
  2. Linux Mint- Another open source os which is build over ubuntu and is gaining popularity. The main advantage for using Linux Mint is that the multimedia codec's are preinstalled and belive me you will be stunned by the media playback performance.
There are other linux distributions like Open Suse,Fedora, open bsd and rescue os which is not alinux based os and strives for full windows application compatibility including windows drivers.

Piracy and freeware

In a country like india the piracy rates are high.Mainly the problem is the lack of awareness.People dont know the fact that softwares costs in real money and those who do tend to use pirated ones as they dont know that there are freeware versions which can do the same function some times even better. Our government is showing ads about consumer in almost all the main channels. If they can add some awareness ads about piracy it can make a difference.Another way to approach this problem may be to popularise the use of credit cards.Atm cards can doubble up as credit cards.

How to find a good freeware?

There are many sites that provide freeware. My favourite are majorgeeks and softpedia. The main advantage of these sites are that they host their own downloads. Both sites are updated frequently and all the downloads are checked for malware. So next time when you use the net why dont you give these sites a try?

Freeware vs shareware

Main reason for piracy is that people just dont know there are freeware alternatives which offer the same functionality or better. In the following posts i would be discussing about them and how to get it.
